Requirement Description:
Persons keeping one or more colonies of bees must register with the Department annually. Persons keeping one or more colonies of bees may be required to post his or her registration number in a prominent place within each apiary under his or her control.
Violations of the Act may result in administrative penalties.
Approval Process:
Registration is accomplished by recording the beekeeper's name, address, apiary location, number of colonies and any other pertinent information on forms prescribed by and available from the Department.

Bees or items of used bee equipment may not be transported between counties within the State, or into Illinois from another state without a permit or compliance agreement based upon an inspection certificate.
Bees or equipment transported in violation of this requirement may be held and inspected by the Department and, if appropriate, ordered returned to the place of origin.
The Department has the right to inspect any bees, colonies, items of bee equipment or apiary and to enter upon any property used for beekeeping during reasonable business hours.
Any colony infected with American Foulbrood disease must be abated.
